Caregiver Benefit

The Caregiver Benefit covers caregiving expenses if you or another covered person is injured in a motor vehicle accident and can no longer provide care for a household member, such as a child, an elderly parent or a dependant adult.

Get to Know Your Coverage

Being a caregiver is a full-time responsibility. When an accident makes it impossible to manage your caregiving duties, the Caregiver Benefit in your auto insurance coverage is there to step in, helping ensure your loved ones continue to receive the support they need. Here’s a quick guide to what this benefit offers:

Who is eligible: The primary caregiver before their accident and who is not receiving Income Replacement or Non-Earner Benefits.

Benefit: $250/week for the first dependant, $50/week for each additional dependant.

Example: A stay-at-home parent broke their arm in a motor vehicle accident and could no longer lift or assist with caring for their child with special needs. The Caregiver Benefit paid for professional help so the child could still receive proper care.

Understanding the Right Coverage for You

The Caregiver Benefit provides financial support if you’re unable to care for dependants and need to hire professional help. Because caregiving costs can add up quickly — especially after non-catastrophic or catastrophic injuries with longer recovery times — this coverage may be important for families with young children or other dependants.

Consider whether you have savings or other financial resources to cover these expenses during recovery. An insurance agent or broker can help you determine if this benefit is the right choice for your needs.
